Don’t trick Google. It’s not worth it
14 September 2020
Google My Business is a great tool. It helps consumers find what they are looking for within their proximity at the time of the search. At a glance, it helps consumers determine if the business deserves their business based on the reviews that are displayed.
This feature has become popular as more businesses are starting to comprehend its effectiveness and the impact it can bring to a local business. With this new popularity, it also attracted shady SEO practices among private marketing agencies getting thousands of listing suspended
Don’t try to trick Google. It’s not worth it.
Let me start by saying I loved denying reinstatement requests just because I knew this business or person was up to no good. I won’t go into details, but I will share what NOT to do with your listing.
Keeping it clean and simple
Don’t use a fake address. Don’t claim a GMB listing for the sole purpose of lead generation to sell to other real business. This is a growing problem Google is currently trying to fix once and for all. I believe that public records will minimize this abuse.
Here’s a few more reason not to abuse GMB:
- Use it for affiliate websites.
- Don’t use tracking numbers.
- Don’t use it to stuff keywords.
More reasons are out there, but I won’t get into those here.
GMB is a great tool, but I advise you to treat it with respect and if you are managing it for a real business, be careful of how you use it because spamming to rank seems to be on every marketer’s mind.
Ranking GMB is obtainable if you focus on quality and keeping customers’ experience your utmost # objective.
If you are a business owner, I do offer a video course on optimizing your GMB for better engagement, and performance thus giving it the ability to rank higher in the search results. I created the course to be helpful and get you the results you need.
In the meantime – keep it simple, clean, and be active on it, so you get the results you are aiming to accomplish. Don’t forget – Don’t trick Google. It’s not worth it.
